Nobody in the afternoon group is qualified to teach philosophy. We are simply a group of people who are interested in “the big questions in life”. We don’t have any absolute answers - just more questions.
Sometimes we find an interesting speaker to come and talk to us on some philosophical subject. Most of the time we listen to each other and do our own presentations.
We have discovered that many of us in the group have very interesting things to say!
We hope to open our minds ever wider and wider. Most of us realise that we cannot put the world right simply through talking; but talking and thinking might help to put ourselves in better shape...that’s a start!
We are a friendly (and very civil and polite) group of people. We are open to all ideas as long as they are modestly and non-dogmatically presented.
We aim to enjoy our meetings and exercise our minds. Sometimes we even learn things ...... but we are still struggling over the ‘Meaning of Life’.
We now have a Second (Self-Help) Discussion Group which meets in the morning,
10:00 am to 12:00 noon in a Member’s home.
This is an informal group that will discuss the concepts in Ben Dupre's book
'50 philosophy ideas you really need to know'.
Do come along and enjoy a friendly discussion.
