Visits are normally carried out regardless of weather conditions.
They are always enjoyable and include coffee and lunch breaks.
We are often able to meet people and gain access to places not open to the general public.
This group has developed from our very popular Discovering Dorset group and has now extended into Hampshire and Wiltshire. It enables members to have a closer look at some of the places of interest in Wessex that they have not had the time to explore before.
The members gain most from the group by first investigating and then visiting their chosen place.
Most visits involve some walking and some involve costs for entrance fees and parking.
The group is well attended.
Meetings are every week - one week in a hall the next at the chosen venue.
Members take turn to lead the group in discovering a new place of interest.
They generally work with partners or in small groups investigating their choice of village or area of interest by visiting, talking to locals and research using books or the Internet.
Presentations include talks, photographs, colour slides or, for the technically minded, PowerPoint presentations or films.
The following week the group visits the place guided by the leaders of that week.
