Following the very successful course on Digital Photography in September 2009,
the Leader is offering a Photoshop Elements course which will again take place over three days
11 - 13 April.

This course is full but if you would like to be included on a waiting list please contact us.

This course is aimed at individuals who are comfortable with their digital camera and are looking to gain experience in image editing techniques.
Candidates should also be computer literate. The course is a hands-on practical course requiring the use of your own laptop.
The course will make extensive use of Photoshop Elements – previous experience of Elements is not required.

The course includes an optional session which discusses picture taking techniques to optimize the quality of images
‘as taken by the camera’ before any editing commences.

Use of Elements will begin with basic tools to improve the overall quality of images and move on to quite sophisticated tools based on layers.
Building panoramic images, collages and slide shows (with accompanying music) will also be covered.

AGENDA
v
The general approach is to restrict editing such that the image remains something the ‘camera could have taken’.  Going beyond this point is considered moving from photography to art (though the point is stretched a little at times)
v
Demonstration and practice of various image editing techniques including rotation & cropping, colour, brightness and contrast adjustment, sharpening, blurring, red-eye removal. These techniques will be applied to whole images and to parts of images, different methods of selecting a part of an image will be discussed.
v
Changing colours, cosmetic adjustments, removing unwanted bits from images, ‘head transplants’, adding text.
v
Layer concepts will be discussed and used to create effects like adding a moon to an image that is partly behind a building.
v
Layers will also be used to create collages.
v
Building panoramas will be carried out with special (free) software.
v
Building slide shows.
