For the Beginners and Intermediate group sessions, topics ranging from the basic screen and keyboard layouts through to Word processing, labels and envelopes, spreadsheets, email, Internet, file management and security issues are covered.
Anything users enquire about is dealt with for Windows and Works programs at an easy level
with handouts of notes.
The first half of a session is used to demonstrate a topic and display it on a screen.
Users then spend the rest of the time trying to see if they can follow the instructions, either using their own laptops or sharing the 2 U3A laptops.
For personal visits any particular problem the user requires assistance with is tackled - there is sometimes a learning curve for the leader too!
(cost £3 per visit)
The aim of the ‘Familiarity - the next step’ course is to give members the confidence to explore what their computer can do without the need to purchase expensive software.
Topics covered include card and calendar making, saving photos to disc, creating slide shows, saving music files, using columns and anything else suggested by individuals.
It is assumed that all members can use the basic techniques, ie saving files, formatting documents etc.
Procedures are demonstrated using the U3A projector and a laptop.
Members take home on their memory stick a workshop which guides them through all the procedures covered in the session.
We now have our own Blogsite which can be found on www.wimborneu3acomputers.blogspot.com

Fortnightly sessions are also held in Allendale House on Wednesday afternoons.
The ‘XP Room’ is used from 2.00 -3.00 p.m. and the ‘Vista Room’ from 3.00 - 4.00 p.m.
There is a charge made for these sessions as each room costs £20 per hour to hire.
There are spaces and the probable charge per member will be £10 - £12 for the 5 sessions.
This must be paid at the first session on 13 January (the actual cost will depend on the numbers attending).
Each Vista session will follow a particular topic, including Photography, Word, Excel, Folders, Files
and PC maintenance, e-mail and Internet.
Allendale House has several computers so this is a ‘Hands On’ group.
